I think it's very successful. I have seen and read so many articles. Each with a biography at the bottom of the article. I think it makes one curious about the author and would enter to find out more. :)

I agree completely with ROYALE. I am new to this forum but I do moderate several topics at the
work-at-home-business.com forum! In my opion article writing is perhaps the best method of advertising available. It is at the very least extrememly important! We have home business website and article writing is part of it. Every article you write and submit gets put on all future sites given away. This gives many quality links pointing back to your website! Good articles can be submitted and possibly placed on hundreds or even thoudands of websites all pointing back to your site!
The problem most of us face is actually writing articles. At least I do! Even set a goal of producing 1 or 2 articles per month! Even if they are not publishing quality just stick them up on your website for fresh content. Search engines crave fresh content! RSS feeds are great for websites also.

That is my opinion. Hope it helps!

Here is a real life case of the power of ads and articles in forums! At the time of writing this posting approxiametly 38 people had read my 2 articles and a little more than that had clicked on 2 ads in about 36 hours! The cost to me was about 4 minutes of my time not including sticking around to chat with everyone. Even an average of 20 per day from site times 5 to 6 every day compounding begins to bring alot of free traffic in time!
If you are simply using copy and paste and exiting the site from registration the first time to posting doesn't take 10 minutes provided you have a list of forums ready!
I now post in 5 to 6 new forums per day (it takes about one hour) Then spend about up to one hour per day responding to e-mails! The links always stay live if you obey forum rules. Great Publicity!
Internet Marketing is a huge numbers game! More specifically quality #'s.(leads) If you have your well thought out and planned PPC campaign running, ad submitters running on autopilot and every other concievable advertising machine working for you double check to make sure that you have bought advertising on page 1 websites for your keywords in the big search engines!
Some of these sights are getting phenominal page views every month. If your ad is on page 1 of thier site, or any other for that matter, you will be getting quality traffic! Probably cheaper than adwords for page views! Adwords is great though but if you are on a budget then look for other's with minimum bids of 1 cent instead of 8! 8 times as many quality clicks for same price. Targeted traffic is still what it is!
Any way I'm getting off topic but any comments are welcome!

Content is the only thing that will have people replying to your site and coming back for more. A badly written site is the worst advertit for your business.
Articles do help - keep them short and crisp and well written

Articles are a great way to generate traffic, provided they have popular keywords and origianl content. That's what gets you noticed by search engines, and therefore by searchers.

You should write articles relating to your website.
They are a lot of article directories on the net for you to submit the articles.

For me, article marketing is the best long term solution for generating traffic. And by far, Ezine Articles gets me the most traffic. But for getting tons of backlinks, submit to everything.

I wrote an article yesterday and by this afternoon had 145 click-throughs to my landing page. 44 of those clicked to the merchant page and I made one sale.

It works.
