What happens when you re-direct a domian from one site to another? does the site that you transfered from become obsolete? or do you continue to pay a monthly fee and still have a service there?:)

I think it depends on whether you have two domain names pointing towards the same place or site, or whether only the new one points there. Normally you leave the old one there for some time also

Are you really asking about using a domain name to redirect to another site, or actually moving your whole site from one host to another.

I'm pretty sure there is a difference. I use a domain name as a redirect in some of my affiliate marketing to send traffic to the affiliate's site, but I haven't ever gone through the whole process of changing an established site from one domain name to another.

I just wasn't clear on your question so I thought perhaps others might have the same confusion. If you clarify, maybe you can get a better answer from someone more knowledgeable on the subject. :)

Do you mean that you change your domain name?

If it is the case, you can have a page that specify you have moved to another domain. This is to let your visitors know and bookmark your new domain.

Jogger...I am assuming from your question you are using two different hosting companies for your domain name and websites. Yes, the site that you transfered the domain name from would become obsolete because there is no longer a domain name associated with it and no way to view it. However you still would have the hosting service that you were using to host the old website so yes there still would be a monthly hosting fee. Just see if you could cancel the old hosting service before the next billing cycle.

Of course..you still need to pay on that domain... that domain still consider as yours...

Of course if you are availing both hosting plans you have to pay to both. If you are just redirecting your site to another domain name then it means that your previous website is working, and ofcourse working with any web hosting company. It will never obsolete because you have two different domain names for one website. If you do so then you can open your website from both domain names.
And if you just redirect your affiliate site to your purchased domain name then you just have to pay to your purchasecd domain name because your affiliate website is not yours.
