If you know exactly what you're looking for and don't expect to find too many results in your search you have a good chance of finding a decent source.

For example, One day I was looking for a web site that contained MASH episode guide. So I typed that into my search and found about 25 web sites that had a MASH episode guide. Not bad. And since I could be pretty sure that each one had the same guide, I just picked the first one on the list and went there. Sure enough it had a guide and I looked up the season I was interested in.

Simple.

But some searches are not so simple. And when it comes to a home business or any kind of selling on the Internet listings can end up in the hundreds of thousands.

Let's say for example you have a web design business, like I have. So you submit your site to a search engine and hope for a good placement.

Go do a search on web design at any search engine. You will find a few hundred thousand listings at least. Most search engines only list about 20 sites per page. So let me ask you a question. What's the chances of your site being on page 1, out of a few hundred thousand sites? Page 2? Page 3?

Most surfers quit after the first 3 pages. So if they've gone through about 60 listings and let's say there are 600,000 web site design sites, your chances of being on the first 3 pages is 1 in 1000.

Not too good is it?

Now, there is software and services around that will help your placement in these search engines. But the problem here is, everyone has access to these services so no one really gets an advantage.

Bottom line. Search engine submissions to promote your business are useless unless you are promoting something that NO ONE else has. That requires a totally original idea and a lot of R&D. most of us don't have that kind of time or money. We're just trying to promote an existing product as an affiliate and make some money from doing that. No time invested and no R&D. That's what your typical home business person is after.

And it's a great thing to be able to do. There are a lot of GREAT affiliate programs out there with products that people want. The problem though is there is a lot of competition. You're not the only one selling that product or service, especially if it's a good one.

So what's the answer?

The answer is taught at this site.

This site will teach you how to get around the search engine problem. For that matter, learn the techniques taught here and you won't even need to use Search Engines to advertise your site. I know I've stopped submitting to them and it hasn't mattered one bit. Truth is, they are a waste of time.

If you are trying to get your on line business off the ground, haven't had success to this point, and still haven't checked out the site. then maybe it's time you did.

http://www.globalmike.info

You have nothing to lose but a few minutes of your time. I promise you that if you use the techniques taught here you WILL see a big improvement in your on line sales. The reason is simple. These techniques are used by all the big companies and all the big names on the Internet. Names like Mike Chen and Mark Joyner. They use them because they work.

It may be the last web site you will ever need to go to.

Whatever you decided to do I wish you success with your on line marketing. If you have any questions you can contact me by email or the phone number below.

Good article, a bit long but does explode a lot of myths about SEO's. That has become so much of a buzzword nowadays that it eems to have become way too important.
Thanks

Very interesting article. About 1/2 of my traffic comes from search engines, so I can not agree that search engines are a waste of time, however I would never count on them 100%. They are way too unpredicatable.

Thanks for the article, lots to think about.

An exceptional article Mike. That is precisely why I tell people to make sure they have a program that pays on multiple levels. I also tell them to do a lot of recruiting offline but more important than anything. They MUST STICK WITH IT AND BELIEVE IN THE PRODUCT! There are so many people who jump from program to program trying to sell the newest fanciest widget only to leave and sign up for the next great deal!

Interesting read. I am a big believer in search engine optimization, but like others, I do not rely on it for all my traffic.

I believe in search engine optimization. However, I know search engines change their criterias regularly. One must have an SEO that regularly updates her knowledge in the area. I paid my SEO big money because I know this will be my solution to paying too much money for pay per click.

I spent $167.00 on SEO (http://www.moxie-drive.com/SEO-Elite-4.0/) and will never have to spend another penny.

Want proof that it works?

Look at #3 in Google for home based business opportunity (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=home+based+business+opportunity) and look for http://moxie-drive.com.

Questions?

Wow! I went to your SEO website and that is a great little tool!! Have you heard of Web CEO? It's similar but yours looks a lot better. However, you know that the algorithms and rules change regularly on the search engines. How does this program keep up with that?

We have an SEO that does all the work manually because of that. We just hired her and we are #1 on MSN under Coastal Vacations Business.
