Changing you signature block

So I have to ask...If it is true and PLEASE correct me if I am wrong (distinct possiblity) If we are indeed penalized from search engines for having the same link text, how often would you suggest changing your sig block info?

I could be way out in left field but if this is true about about being penalized, then maybe a vailid question.
