An area I've had success in is a technique called arbitrage.
What you do is start a Google Adsense account (free). This is an account that allows you to place Google Adwords ads on your site. You get paid every time someone clicks on one of those ads. If an advertiser is paying $2.00 per click, you'll make about $.40.
So, you research the highest cost keywords and write an article based on one of those keywords. Insert your Adwords block into the page and put it up on the web. Google will read your article and decide on the ads to place based on the content of your article. You can also enter that keyword into an article search on a site such as articlecity and grab an article to use, if you're lazy.
Now to get readers(clickers) to the article. I use a 2nd tier search engine (7search). These engines allow you to advertise with adwords style ads for a fraction of the price. You'll have to pull out a credit card and pay $25 up front to 7search. Your advertising costs are pulled from that balance. This is nice, because you never stand the chance of running over that $25 amount without you knowing it.
So, now, you write an ad promoting your article and linking to it. After that, you enter keywords to bid on. 7search will help by suggesting keywords if you like. I generally bid no more that $.06 per click. The idea is to get that $.06 click to click on a high paying Google text ad on your article. Some Google advertisers actually pay $20 to $30 per click for certain keywords.
Get the idea? If you can pay $.06 to send someone to your article, then they click on an ad that pays you $3.00, that's a pretty good profit. Of course, not every visitor is going to click on your adwords ads, but quite a few will.
I generally keep an eye on profit margin to make sure I'm at least doubling my investment. Try to find articles that quadruple your investment. Then keep adding articles to increase your income.
It won't make you rich, but arbitrage is something you may want to add to a diversified portfolio of incomes you should be building.
