Social bookmarking and traffic

I was in search for resources to increase my traffic and conversions. For this, I searched on many forums and could get a hint that social bookmarking is helpful to get traffic. I hired someone and bookmarked my website to 100 social bookmarking websites. I could notice that the traffic increased in no time. Though this was not on a long term basis, the money I had spent to do this was worth it. Also I have my back links on those websites now. I don't know whether it has any back link value, but still I believe that it will do some good in cases of good social bookmarking websites.

Social Bookmarking does work, I have used it myself for some of my websites. I never submitted to so many sites as you have though.

Just submitting the same websites to social bookmarking sites over and over again though I think will get you penalized by the search engines, they don't like duplicate content. When I say penalized I don't mean you will get fined or something, what will happen is the search engines will just place your website on the bottom of the list and all that work you did will just be a waist of time.

Instead try all the free methods of advertising from Blogging, classifieds, forums, myspace, BigDaddyFriends. your own mailing list, etc.

I have had some degree of success with social bookmarking, but it sadly hasn't had the kind of impact I was hoping for.

Even still it definitely helps, especially if you have like 2000 friends or something on StumbleUpon.
