If you already have a website, make sure that your website's theme matches your affiliate program. If your website is about computers, then promote related computer products or services. Also, one should find and scrutinize your target market. In any affiliate programs, your visitor is going to get you returns. So, get to know your visitors. Analyze your visitors behavior using your website statistics before deciding on which affiliate program to choose. Your objective should be to find what your visitors are looking for and then promote products that interest them and match with your existing products or services. :p

I agree Shout, but unfortunately, the website I have is not my own. I know nothing about creating a website. My website is a canned website that I am using for my business. But, I will keep this in mind if or when I decide to create my own website.

Thanks for sharing...

work2bfree,

Don't let your lack of web site building knowledge stop you. I was in the same boat last year. I wanted to have my own site and my own business, but I didn't know A THING about how to go about it. The more I read, the more confused I felt and in over my head.

If you look in my signature you will see two web sites that I have built in the last year. The first one is the largest and most successful so far because it has been up the longest. I just started the second one last month.

Anyway, I used a program called SBI to build the sites. I highly recommend them because they truly do take you through the whole process step by step and make it possible for complete amateurs to "get it right." SBI is a complete system that has everything all rolled into one package. I haven't had to pay for a thing extra to build these sites.

If you are interested in some free materials that I read to help me get started and pointed in the right direction, let me know. :)

All the best.

Hi Happywife,
I would be very interested in your free materials. How much did it cost? I am on a really tight budget. Layoffs at my job are going on, so I am trying not to spend too much money at this time.

I would like to build a web site where people can purchase some products. I see that one of your web sites has chocolate as a theme, but I could not find any place where one can purchase the chocolate. Would your materials or SBI be able to help me create a web site where one can purchase products?

Thank you so much....

Lawren,
As you noticed, my sites are based on affiliate marketing at this point. Yes, SBI teaches you to promote affiliate products or your own products and services. The monetization choices are completely up to you. They give you guidance through a whole range. It is just that this was the best choice for me at this particular time.

The SBI system itself isn't free. It is $299 for the year. (Well, this week they are having a Halloween special, where you buy one and get the second for $100 - for those who think they want two, one to start now and one to start in the next 9 months - or for two friends to go together and split the cost). Anyway, the annual fee includes the domain, hosting, video tutorials, all the software, etc. A very good price in my opinion.

However, the free materials I mentioned are very good, too. If you already know generally how to build a site, this would probably help you build a "successful" site.

I tried to send you an email with the links to the free materials, but you have a block on emails in this forum. I will try to list them here, but the links may be removed. If they are, you can email me with your address and I will send them directly to you.

The first is the Affiliate Masters Course which is a free download that was the first one I found that really benefited me. It is the step by step guide I mentioned to building a web site that brings in targeted traffic.

There are also two other free e-books that are especially helpful when it actually comes to writing the content of your site. They are Make Your Content PreSell and Make Your Site Sell.

Lastly, I will offer you two more links that give you first a quick explanation of the CTPM concept in a nutshell. Secondly, an explanation of the importance of Targeted Traffic.

Well that is some good reading that I hope you will find very helpful as you build your online business. They were a blessing to me.

I have tried affiliate programs and could not get it to work. Just before joining my current business opportunity, I did some research on affiliate programs because I was considering starting one again. It seems that so few people become successful in affiliate programs, at least when I tried some years ago. Has this changed any; meaning are there more people who are benefiting from affiliation programs?

Hello again! Yes, people are making money with affiliate marketing. I know quite a few people that are doing so, including myself.

I think the secret is to find the right niche. Too many people are trying to make money by promoting affiliate products dealing with making money online. While there are a lot of people searching for that type of thing, there are soooo many people promoting it, that I think it is VERY difficult to do well in that field.

What products were you promoting in the past?

For me, after reading that free Affiliate Masters Course that I mentioned earlier in this thread, I decided the best thing to do would be to promote a specific type of products related to a niche I could enjoy writing about. That's how I ended up building Chocolate Candy Mall.

As I said, I didn't have a clue how to build a site or anything else. I took the plunge and joined SBI. It has cost me $25 per month for the whole deal with SBI, literally!

This month I will make more than $200 from Adsense for that site as well as at least $100 more from affiliate commissions. I realize that isn't a huge amount yet, but it is more than paying for itself, and it is an ever increasing income.

As my site visitors increase, so does my income. My second site, that I started in September, is almost paying for itself, already. I'll have to wait and see how the last few days of the month go. This site should outdo the first site in the long run, because it is a much more profitable niche - but the competition is much more fierce, so I will have to do a lot more work upfront.

Think about something you really enjoy - a passion or hobby or interest. It may be something you already know a lot about, or just something that you are really interested in learning. That is the type of thing to build a web site around, I think.

Yes, you can sell your own products from your site eventually if you like. That would, of course, make you more money than affiliate commissions. I don't think the "store" side of it is included in the SBI fee - although everything else is.

They already have a feature called "StoreBuildIt" that you can implement if you want to go that route (I'm not sure of the cost off the top of my head since I don't use it). But I believe they are coming out in the next month or so with something much better. They are going to make it easy for SBIers to pretty much "plug in" all sorts of outside features to their SBI site.

I'm not ready for that yet, but I do plan to have a site in future that will implement more of those types of things. Steady, steady... :)

Anyway, I do want to encourage you to give this whole concept of affiliate marketing another try by building yourself a keyword focused content based web site. From experience, I know it works.

All the best.

Finding keywords has always been difficult for me. I have not learned this very well. It is hard to find keywords that are not being used as often and still have them effectively promote your site.

The products I was trying to market on my affiliate web site were workout equipment. I am into exercise so I thought this would be good for me to get into so I am so passionate about it and I workout all the time.

What do you suggest? I would love to find something to supplement my current income while I am building my network marketing business.

I left something off Happywife I wanted to add. You may have heard about or not heard about PassiveGoogleProfits. I paid a little over a dollar to receive the cd training on this. As it turns out, it too is about affiliate program. I have not had the time to go through all of the training.

Have you heard anything about this and if others are using it, how it is working for them?

happywife

Lawren,
Even though exercise/exercise equipment is popular, you still may be able to make a niche out of it for affiliate marketing. You can possibly narrow it down a bit more specifically to a particular type of exercise or equipment.

This is the secret. You need to build lots and lots of content pages on the subject. Each page focused on a keyword/phrase related to the subject. Every single page doesn't have to be one that you think you can "win" for with the search engines. The sheer volume of pages will raise your status on the pages.

If you look at my chocolate candy site as an example - my main site concept is chocolate candy. I have heaps of pages related to the subject. Some tougher in competition others not too bad. I rank in the top 10 for Google on over 90 different pages and in the top 30 for about 90 more.

SBI has a really remarkable brainstorming tool that brings you back the relevant keywords and phrases that people are typing in to the search engines each month. It really helps when you are struggling with keyword ideas.

If you can afford the investment of SBI, I would definitely say you can make affiliate marketing pay for your subject since you really enjoy it. You will be able to speak with authority and confidence.

I have heard of Passive Google Profits, but don't really know anything about it. Sorry. You may be able to get some info. by posting a specific thread about it.

I've discovered that what I am doing works, so I am trying (sometime with difficulty) to tune out all the other tempting sounding options. Then tend to just distract me and waste my time that I should be using to build more content on my current sites.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I kind of learned this later on; after having tried the affiliate web site. At the time, affiliate sites were kind of new. The business has evolved quite a bit over the years.

I will look more into this affiliate program. I am also spending some time to learn more about how to use Adwords. I have struggled with this for a number of years. I have a Google Adword account and I know it works. I know people who are using it and doing very well. I will continue my research.

It seems that I have so much to learn and not a whole lot of time to do what needs to be done. But, I guess this is the nature of the beast called building a business.

happywife
12-04-2007, 02:47 AM
Yes, it always seems to be a case of so little time, so much to learn and do. :)

I don't buy Adwords. I rely on the free traffic from the engines. My chocolate site received over 15,000 visits in November - all free.

I wouldn't recommend Adwords unless you have a product with a high profit margin and a high sales conversion rate. Too many people who are inexperienced with Adwords loose money instead of making it.

But you are right. Some people do well with Adwords, so it can be worth a try if you are able to create ads in such a way that you are getting really targeted clicks by people ready to buy.

work2bfree
12-06-2007, 01:21 AM
I have been doing some reading about Google adwords and discovered that I was doing things completely wrong. I am going to implement many of the suggestions and see how things go. If I can get a good conversion rate, I am going to share with others what it is I did.

I think it is going to work. This one guy, who wrote the article, has a number of adword campaigns and he is doing very well. We shall see.

Shri,

I'm sorry if I don't quite understand your question. You said that you have a website and want to work from home. The links that you provided are either not your websites or you are already set up to make money from them.

If you want to build your own unique website, see the business building link in my signature. The first two links are the websites I built using that program and their site building principles.

You can make money from a website in many different ways. You can offer your own products or services. You can refer other products and services to earn a commission. You can allow advertising on your site from places like Google Adsense for extra income. It all depends on what exactly you are interested in doing.

From the links you left, they seem to be offering you transcription jobs, etc., which is another option if you are good at it and can land with an honest company.

I hope that answers your question somewhat. :)

Yes, but sometimes I feel that I am being taken advantage of by my family.

They know I am going to drop whatever it is that I am doing so that gives them an excuse to not do what they know they should be doing. I wonder what they would do if I, one time, said no and let them deal with the consequences. More than likely I would suffer the consequences along with them. So, I will continue to drop what I am doing and fulfill my duties.

Thank you Xoom786. I wish the same for you and your family.

I am fairly new to network marketing. I spent about 4 years in an MLM. Although I failed at it, I also learned a ton. In fact, what I learned, I am now applying to my business and I am discovering that they do work. Now, why didn't they work when I was a member of the MLM?

One of the other things I am learning is that eventhough much of my interaction with people is on the internet, to have a successful business, it is still necessary to build relationships with people.

Forum posting and social network sites are excellent for interacting and establishing relationships with people.

People who are new to network marketing will find it awkward at first to use the internet as a means of establishing relationships, but after much practice, it becomes second nature. Once you have mastered the skills of communication and relationship building, your business will grow by leaps and bounds.

You are welcome Coco.

"Getting them in the deal" as the saying goes, does not work. There is little to no trust established when you are trying to build a business based on a numbers game. I know because I tried this for almost 4 years and I lost more people than I got to stay in.

You need to spend time building relationships with people. This is just as much important off the internet as well as on the internet.

Affiliate marketing is best opportunity to earn money online. If you are searching for online jobs then affiliate marketing is best jobs online. Just promote merchant products and earn commission. Commission Junction,Clcikbank,Shareasale are some good affiliate programs, they pay good commission to affiliate. You can promote your products by your blogs, article marketing, forum etc.

2009,

You're right. It can be difficult to understand and learn affiliate marketing at first if you've never done anything like it before. I was a bit overwhelmed when I started too.

I came across a free Affiliate Masters Course ebook that really helped explain it in a way that I could understand. It set me on the right path finally. Maybe it will make it a little easier for you to understand, too.

You can download it from the Free Resources link in my signature below.

Have you learnt much about pot odds yet? It basically allows you to calculate whether or not its wise to place another bet based on your potential winnings and yours outs.

One problem a lot of relative beginners face is knowing when to bet and how much - This will go some way towards answering that question, but dont feel you should rely on the mathematics all the time. Sometimes youre better off trusting your instincts, and youll start to see that the more you play.

Theres no such thing as too much poker knowledge, so learn as much as you can and make sure you utilise the skills until it becomes second nature.
