The problems in the housing market has drastically affected the state of the economy. For example, I read yesterday and today that Countywide Mortgage Lender will be laying off a lot of people. I think the money Bank of America lent them help to stave off bankruptcy for a little bit. The stock market has not been stable either. I am kind of worried about the possibllity of a recession coming on. What is your opinion on the state of our economy? Am I just being paranoid?

There are several things to keep in mind:
Down Payment Assistance to buy a home indicates a person can NOT afford to purchase yet
Just because the price on an item is going up does not mean you should buy now - people bought because housing costs were going up.
If people who can not afford to own a home buy anyway - it causes a drop in rentals which may be borderline solvent (owner in over their head) which causes a flooded housing market as rental owners bail out and some owners end up going into bankruptcies.
As far as a recession is concerned - every time a market fluctuates - isn't that a VERY minor form of a recoverable recession?
Currently; our market is actually in fairly good shape.
It is readjusting to the trickle down fluctuation in fuel costs.
Fuel goes up
transportation cost have to adjust
transported products have to adjust
jobbers and wholesalers have to adjust (cost of doing business increases)
business has to adjust wages to assist in employee added expenses.
Bottom Line: it eventually levels out.
Our economy is growing better than any time in history!
There have been more jobs created than ever before.
These are typically better paying that those that were lost.
The down side to this is that those without an education have got to get a little more creative or suffer.
Sites like this are the bridge to those who are creative and it's not as active as it would be - if a full blown recession were hitting us!
Life Is Great - Capitalize on It!

Hi Wholesaler,
I hear a lot that the economy is growing, but I am not seeing it. I heard just last week that cars are not selling as well. Of course houses are also not selling well either. There is also concern about the retail market, Christmas will be here in no time and there is already a lot of concern as to how stores will do this Christmas season. Jobs, I agree that there is more hiring than down-sizings, but the growth even in jobs has not reached the levels that economists predicted it should be, meaning, it is not doing as well as expected. There is as an increasing gap between the wealthy and the poor. The middle class are also starting to feel the effects of the economy because their money is not growing as fast as the cost of living which means that their incomes are not going as far as in the previous years. It disturbs me when I hear all this propaganda about how well the economy is doing yet when I look around and talk to people, there seems to be a big discrepancy. At some point, if things don't change for the better, many people are going to start to express their frustrations and it won't be a pretty picture.
Thanks for letting me share....

It's funny that you say that Wholesaler because North Carolina is one of the places I am considering moving to. I very much dislike Alabama. I only came here to help out my mother. Once I get her situated, my hope is to move on to some place that I would like. Right now, North Carolina, maybe Charlotte, South Carolina, and lastly Savannah Georgia are places I am looking to move.

Let me mention some of the perks of the Raleigh area.
Duke hospital & university - leaders in the medical industry
RTP (Research Triangle Park) is globally reknown for it's businesses
Computer Industry: IBM, SAS, Red Hat, and a lot more
Bayer is a strong influence here
EDUCATION: Duke, UNC, NC State
We are about mid point between the mountains and the coast.
Close to some really nice lakes to relax at
... and that is just the tip of the tail
.... the down fall .... it gets too hot (for me) around here!

Sounds like a great place to live. I am used to the heat. Alabama is definitely a hot place. Humid here too. Prior to making my move, I will need to do my research. I will search online and then maybe drive to these places and spend a few days there before I finalize my decision.

Housing is just way to expensive around here, much like almost everything else sadly :(
Well, I can only hope this improve.

Property here is fairly inexpensive when you compare the prices to other parts of the U.S. But, everything else is more expensive. Try 10% sales tax.
Some other areas have lower sales taxes, but you have to drive a little ways out in order to get the better sales taxes.
Gas too is expensive, but where isn't the cost less expensive except maybe in other countries.
Some parts of the country are in a "recession"
Everything is going up except income(those working jobs)
gas price, foreclosures, disasters, milk, bread, etc.,
I hope that our economy will be in a better place sooner than later:confused:

I spend most of the day playing with a set of 5 forums which are on my newest site
it's
THE BASICS ABOUT AUTO'S
THE BASICS ABOUT BUSINESS
THE BASICS ABOUT PETS
THE BASICS ABOUT POLITICS
THE BASICS ABOUT SOCIAL/HEALTH/Friends of BILL W.
... that is when I'm not fishing or riding around in my '70 convertible
been hanging around and playing for over 2 years and not even 50 yet ... soon .. but ... :o
Sometime a person has to establish a course in life and just git 'r done ...
You got to stand up to the situation and make a plan to beat it ...
Problem is people quit to fast ...

Warren Buffet said this week that he believes that the economy is in recession.
If you still think that we are not in a recession, then you have not been paying attention to the news. Prices are going up everywhere, food, gas, and utilities. It is getting harder to make ends meet for many people and it is not just the poor. The middle class are feeling the effects and in some cases, even the wealthy.
I think it is time to tighten you budget and start finding ways to conserve you outgoing income. It looks like this is going to continue to at least up through 2009; that is what is speculated anyway.

Warren Buffet is an economist?
Do you know that the states with the quote unquote recession are mainly DEMOCRAT with a lot of UNION activity?
I suppose it doesn't work too well - huh?
Why do people cling onto things that let them down?
Here is a thought ...
Go back to being DEMOCRATS and get away from Socialism!
Socialism wants you to depend on government (it horribly fails)
Try respecting a GREAT Democrat President ...
Can you guess who?
"My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what can you do for your country."

Who are the economists and what kind of information have they been feeding us? In the beginning, the so called economist continued to tell the general public that we were not in a recession, but the signs indicated that we were.
It does not take an economist to determine the state of the economy. I think most people have come to realize that we are in a recession, economist or not.
