One of the methods I recently learned to increase visitations to my website was to submit my url to directories. I was looking for something out there that would allow me to do this to multiple directories. Instead, I was told to just submit to Google directory becasue all of the other search engines and spiders go to google anyway. So, this is what I have started doing. What is our opinion? Is this a good or bad thing?

Do a Google search for something like "search engine submitter" and see what you can come up with...I've found something in the past by using that mehod, but I don't remember what the URL was.

When you say Google directory, do you mean Google search engine?
It is a good idea to submit your web site to Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines. Once you have submitted to them, they will eventually list your site in the search engines and then their spiders will eventually find additional pages as you build them.
The program I use (SBI) to build/host my sites has an automatic submitter to the search engines for every page I build. They talked me through submitting my home page and then they take care of the rest.
As far as directories go, it is good to submit to a number of directories. You really don't need to submit to hundreds (although you can if you like).
Choose, if possible, directories related to your niche.
For instance, for my chocolate site, I can do a Google search for chocolate + directory. They will bring back a list of directories that are related to my niche.
You really don't get much traffic from directories. It is the quality of the backlink that the search engines look for and that is the value. That is why it is important to submit to good directories and in the appropriate category closest to your niche.
Hope that helps.

Yes it does help Happywife. I have been doing exactly what you stated in your post not really understanding why. But you explained it so nicely, now I do understand. Thank you so much...
