The 2 things that work best for me, have been ProBoards and WebRings.

I'm a member of ProBoards forums and own 7 message boards, in addition to owning my own message boards, I am also a registered member of more than 100 other forums, where I try to post regular, plus I visit the ProBoards support board and chat with other ProBoard forums admins (there are currently 77,500+ members so alot of people read each post I make!) No matter which forum I am on, I put links to my websites in the sigs (I own over 30 websites so I have differant links on differant foums).

Almost everyone that ever visits my sites, tells me they found them through a link on one of my posts at one of the ProBoards forums. So that is my #1 advertiser: my sig links.

Also I am the manager of 48 WebRings, and a member of over 950 of other peoples WebRings. It is through my WebRings memberships that I get the second highest amount of visitors to my site.

Other methods that have worked for me are Goolgle searches, word of mouth & asking visitors to recomend us to their friends and family.

Additionaly, I will often do "sig link exchanges"...if I find a site that I paticually like, and want to help promote, I well contact the owner of the site an ask them if it's alright for me to post a link to their site in my sig (the "Help Save Emily" link I'm useing hereis such a site, and one that I put in ALL of my sig links on every forum I belong too). In most cases the owner is happy to let me advertise their site free in my sig links along side of my own sites, and often times they well do the same for me, post links to my sites either in ther sigs on forums or on the links page of their website.

At the moment, i get most of my traffic from my articles, forums, blog.
